Paris-based Chorus Systemes SA yesterday reported from its Chorus Systems Inc Beaverton, Oregon base that Cray Research Inc is the latest to license its Chorus/MiX V.4 microkernel-based Unix system, on undisclosed terms. Cray says it plans to use the microkernel to enhance its Unicos operating system for use in its full range of parallel vector and forthcoming massively parallel systems. Unix System Laboratories Inc also announced that it is moving Unix System V.4.2 and System V.4.2/MP over to the Chorus/Mix microkernel. The serverisation model in Chorus/Mix matches our requirement for integrating our distributed systems as a single system, says Cray. The Chorus technology offers support for distributed or loosely-coupled systems in addition to traditional processor architectures Cray will use the operating system software to integrate its systems in mixed-vendor environments. Cray says it already has Chorus/Mix up and running on a Y-MP box.
