Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Inc will become a foundry for MIPS Technologies Inc under an agreement signed earlier this week, and plans to offer MIPS RISC cores directly to its customers for system-on-a-chip designs. Chartered will make the MIPS32 4K processor cores available in its low-power 0.25 micron and 0.18 micron aluminum and copper process technology. It will also offer integration with its existing library cells, intellectual property cores and tools from its other partners. Based in Singapore, Chartered is a member company of the Singapore Technologies group, and has licensing and development agreements with Motorola Inc and Lucent Technologies Inc for small geometry aluminum and copper process technologies.
