Control Data Corp is still restructuring, and its latest move is to form a joint venture with Volkswagen AG, Wolfsburg to develop manufacturing software based on Control Data’s ICEM Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering & Manufacturing package. The company, to be called ICEM Systems GmbH, hopes to draw on Volkswagen’s experience in the use of computer-based design tools in research and development. The new company will be headquartered in Hanover, with offices in Fankfurt, Dsseldorf and Wolfsburg to serve Europe, and an ICEM System Inc subsidiary will be established in Minneapolis. The new company will start with 100 employees and looks to double that at peak. It will be equally owned and will be capitalised at $6.5m. The new generation of ICEM software to be developed by the venture will initially run on CDC’s Cyber workstations, servers and mainframes.
