Waltham, Massachusetts-based object-oriented applications design and analysis tool vendor Cayenne Software Inc has just released version 5 of its Object Team tool for technical and commercial application developers. Object Team 5, is a Unix-based object- oriented modeling and coding tool aimed at the corporate, multiple-user end of the market where users are familiar with object-based development. Object Team 5 enables collaboration among developers via a relational database-based common workspace repository, which the company believes differentiates it from its competitors; it can also provide private workspaces for each developer. The tool, previously Java-enabled, now also generates Smalltalk. Other new features include concessions to Windows NT users, support for rival Rational Software Corp’s UML Unified Modeling Language, and a document building facility called DocIt for Object Team, which enables Windows 95 and NT users to build Object Team repository-based design and specification documents within Microsoft Word. Object Team 5 uses Sybase Inc’s SQL Anywhere as the embedded database manager for repositories residing on NT systems. It is available now priced from $2,200. Cayenne Software is the result of the merger between commercial applications tool vendor Bachman Information Systems Inc and technical applications developer Cadre Technologies Inc (CI No 2,810), and the Object Team tool was inherited from the latter.
