Vittorio Cassoni has already achieved a very significant reduction in the losses at AT&T Co’s Data Systems division: losses for the first seven months of this year are down to $230m on sales of about $1,200m and is ahead of plan on his mission to reduce losses for the year to 35% of those suffered last year – but the 1986 figure seems to be a moving target, because the Wall Street Journal puts it at $1,200m, while analysts who talked to the New York Times reckon $800m.
