TRAVEL NEWS begins on 19 March 2001 at 6.25 pm following Carlton’s regional news bulletins and ahead of the ITN national evening news.
The nightly bulletins will give viewers up-to-the-minute information on traffic congestion, road works and accidents throughout the region, as well as details of knock-on effects from major events. Plus there’s the latest from the air and rail networks.
For the first time, state-of-the-art technology will bring together all the latest live traffic and travel information into real-time graphics – instantly updated on-screen maps, highlighting all the traffic hot spots.
In addition, live images from hundreds of traffic cameras allow viewers to see for themselves the state of the traffic throughout their region.
Viewers will also be able to access the Travel News Hotline (0900 102 2222) and website (www.trafficmaster.net) – which features live traffic information supported by Trafficmaster’s national network of road-side sensors, covering all of the UK motorways and 95% of the trunk roads.
Executive producer Rob Golding, Managing Director of Travel News Ltd, says: Getting to and from work gets harder each day. We have all struggled recently with problems caused by the trains, the petrol crisis and flooding, and the amount of traffic on the roads is forecast to almost double over the next 25 years. We can’t change that but we can help steer Carlton viewers around the worst of it on a nightly basis.
Travel News Ltd is a joint venture between ITN and Trafficmaster Plc, which already services a number of radio stations and has been the travel supplier to the ITN News Channel.
