The UK outsourcing company Capita has acquired Sheffield-based Technophobia for £6.3m.
In the last two years, Technophobia has increased its turnover by 81%. The web applications developer company has the Co-Operative Bank and Pizza Expressamong its clients.
Capita Systems Integration business director Paul Dawson said, "Technophobia has bucked the trend by growing significantly despite the challenging market conditions, so it’s an exciting acquisition for us."
"Competition is tougher than ever for the private sector and having a web site that is easy to navigate, intuitive and integrates neatly with other channels of communication – be that internal or external – is essential," he added.
Technophobia will be part of Capita’s IT services division and is expected to improve its Web-based information management services. However, Technophobia will retain its own identity and remain as a standalone business entity.
Technophobia said Emma Marshall will remain as managing director, though founding partners Pip and Amelia Thorne, who have been on sabbatical for the last year, will exit the business.
Technophobia managing director Emma Marshall said, "We are extremely excited by Capita’s acquisition. Becoming part of the Capita Group offers us fantastic new opportunities and greater resource to support our plans to grow the business whilst allowing us to retain our own unique character and creative approach to business solutions."
