Cambridge Micro Computers Ltd of Cambridge has launched the Vitesse Property System, a sales system for estate agents which stores, retrieves and displays information using an X Window System graphical interface. The system, which was developed over the past 18 months, is based on the 25MHz 68030-based V683 supermicro running Unix System V. The V683 comes with 16Mb main memory and supports 300Mb to 1,200Mb disk. Communications are provided by a 68010-based controller board with 128Kb of on-board memory, enabling an additional 48 terminals to access the system simultaneously. A 200Kb 8-bit framestore and video input card enables photographs and maps to be entered from video or still cameras and stored in black and white. Support for colour prints will be available as from July, and will require 600Kb of disk storage. Cambridge Micro Computers expect to install 100 systems over the next 12 months and has had enquiries from a number of estate agent chains including the Nationwide Anglia and the Halifax. However, in view of the current UK slump in property and the UKP30,000 to UKP100,000 price tag, enquiries from the Ministry of Defence and employment agencies must be welcome and can be accommodated by the system which supports an applications generator for quick development of new systems.
