Computer Associates International Inc says it will try to get reversed the court decision in its suit against Altai Inc that only the actual code of a program was covered by copyright, and not the idea expressed by the code (CI No 1,950): the Islandia, New York company believes that the Appeals Court decision seems to permit an infringer to profit from infringement simply by employing a translation device or other subterfuge; it says that it is pleased the court upheld its claim against Altai but said the court should have gone further in supporting proprietary intellectual property rights.
