Benefiting will be the software center in Hyderabad, India, with another hundred or so in China. It is believed the hiring will not result in any layoffs in the US, or other parts of the company.

The move is part of the company’s strategy to lower development costs by tapping into skilled and cheap software labor in India and China.

Until March this year CA had around 16,000 employees worldwide – around 7,000 were located outside the US. In April this year 450 lost their jobs as part of a major services reorganization.

Many of CA’s US rivals are also moving in the same direction. BMC Software Inc [BMC], a Houston, Texas-based software firm, also announced plans this summer to cut 13% of its workforce and migrate its development efforts off shore.
