After years of talking up the strength of its integrated suite of products under the Unicenter label, Computer Associates Inc is now set on breaking the products up into components, and used its CA+World show in New Orleans to launch a set of Enterprise Edition applications for distribution through its direct and indirect sales channels. CA, which has its eye on smaller customers who can’t afford the whole Unicenter suite, says the tools, built on top of the Unicenter TNG Framework, have all the functionality of the equivalent Unicenter functions, including cross-platform interoperability with Windows NT, Unix, NetWare and mainframe systems. Additional new components can be added and integrated at a later date. Initial products include: AimIT asset and inventory management, DirectIT directory management, GuardIT systems security, NetworkIT network management, ProtectIT network security and ShipIT automated software distribution. CA also includes its existing ARCserve storage management and FAXserver fax management products, Ingres II relational database, Inoculan anti virus software, Jasmine object database and Remotely Possible remote control software under the same scheme. CA also introduced a set of Workgroup Edition products for smaller customers or departments.
