Business Objects SA has launched a software-services combination extranet offering aimed at providing net-cautious companies with low-risk extranet information services to offer their partners.

The offering, e-Mart, will cost 60,000 pounds ($97,536) for a first phase pilot implementation where BO will build and host a data mart based on a sampling of the customerÆs data, made available via BOÆs own extranet. This phase will take five days to implement, then the customer will have a 20-day service period to evaluate the system with a 50-seat license of WebIntelligence, the browser-based thin client analytical tool.

The service is being launched in response to research carried out by BO, which says 70% of UK IT managers cite lack of skills and clear extranet strategy as barriers to uptake. The company says that e-Mart offers a strategy in a box with lots of hand-holding to overcome these barriers.
