British Telecommunications Plc reports that it has now reached the half-way stage in its monumental undertaking to modernise and digitise its UK telecommunications network and says that half of the local telephone exchanges are now digital; the trunk network is already completely digital and British Telecom says that it has spent UKP15m on the programme so far.
