Over two-thirds of Britons would choose a PC over a TV if they had to choose, found a study sponsored by Microsoft.
The Telegraph reports that one-in-four Britons think that their computer is "the most irreplaceable thing in their life."
The study found that 68% overall and 78% of 18 to 24 years olds said that they would rather have a PC than a TV, according to the report.
The study of 2,000 users also found that a third of those surveyed used a PC for another two hours every evening, after working with one the whole day.
One-in-seven said that surfing the Internet while having a glass of wine makes an ideal evening for them.
Computers have also become a fashion accessory for 14% of the respondents, with 25% saying that computers defined them better than their clothes.
The Telegraph quoted Futurologist Dr Rachel Lawes saying that the PC "is the essential piece of kit that defines what it means to be alive at this moment in history."
She added, "The PC is to consumers what the car used to be in the 20th century."
