A British Common Lisp – developed by Procyon Research Ltd of Cambridge, has made it across the Atlantic courtesy of ExperTelligence Inc, Santa Barbara, California, which has just brought out the new release, 2.1, of Procyon Common Lisp for the Macintosh, with extended features such as full colour, a built-in file compiler and an enhanced editor. The Professional and Developer versions also include the Common Lisp Object System, the standard for object-oriented programming defined by the X3J13 Common Lisp Standards Committee, and a fully integrated Object System inspector. There is now a topical index for the documentation and a rewritten Common Graphics Guide, and the product is 5% faster than 2.0 overall, with 30% faster garbage collection and a 100% increase in reader speed. And on average, claims ExperTelligence, Procyon Common Lisp 2.1 is 56% faster than any other Macintosh-based Common Lisp. The new release runs on any Macintosh with 2Mb of memory, 2.5Mb with the Object System, and the basic system costs $620, Professional is $1,250, and Developer 2.1 with Foreign Function Interface, RunTime Generator and Interface Designer is $2,000 and 4Mb memory is recommended.
