British Olivetti Ltd has launched the battery-powered M211 laptop for use in the MS-DOS and OS/2 environments but has not yet announced prices: built around the Intel 80C286 16MHz processor, the M211 has 1Mb memory expandable to 4Mb, an RS232C serial interface, a 3.5 disk drive (20Mb or 40Mb versions), a liquid crystal display with 640 by 350 EGA screen, and its vital statistics are 13 by 14.3 by 4, it weighs in at 15 lbs; not very impressive really compared with rival laptop offerings such as Grid’s GridLite XL 2.5 disk drive, Agilis’ radio and local area network capabilities, and Dynabook’s diminutive 80286 weighing no more than 6.4lbs (CI Nos 1,197, 1,202).
