At Tuesday’s Mountain View show and tell for the new Netscape Communications Corp, a new and potentially useful acronym was unveiled by Netscape’s fleshy (but famous) executive vice president for Products, Marc Andreessen. Forget the ‘Gang Of Four’ alliance of Netscape, Sun Microsystems, Oracle Corp and IBM Corp, set up in March (CI No 3,118) to drive forward Java and Corba standards. Now we have to realize the N.O.I.S.E. is growing on this topic, according to Andreessen – that being Netscape, Oracle, IBM, Sun and Everyone Else (bar Microsoft Corp, presumably).
