The Bank of England has granted Atom Bank a license to debut its services to UK customers.

Atom Bank added it plans to launch its services by the end of the year, delivered through an app for mobile devices including smartphones and tablets.

The Durham-based company is developing a range of personal and business banking products and services.

Promising new ways to manage money, Atom’s app will include biometric security and end-to-end in-app account opening.

The company said its services will be "branch-free, paper-free and stress-free" also exploiting the capabilities of the Unity gaming platform and incorporating a 3D interactive experience.

Mark Mullen, CEO of Atom Bank, said: "We have set about designing a banking app that’s in tune with how people think about their money.

"Taking an app-based approach allows us to use all the features of your mobile device to provide a slick and highly personalised experience.

"It will offer total control and transparency with a depth that is beyond anything else on offer in the market today."
