The addition to Patrol helps remove some of the background noise of systems monitoring, claims Javier Munoz, EMEA Director BMC Software. It makes it possible to decide the best levels at which an alarm threshold needs to be set. The new Patrol Analytics actually helps adjust alarm thresholds dynamically, according to system parameters that may flux over time.

The software continuously tracks and correlates key system metrics to establish patterns of behavior before recommending the appropriate associated alerting thresholds. False alerts are minimized, it is claimed, but more so the overall volume of alerts, pages and trouble tickets should be cut with the new software.

The package, which is be sold at a price that will be roughly 20% of a Patrol Knowledge Module, is based on a Real-Time Analysis Engine from Netuitive that has been designed to detect problems needing corrective action ahead of posting a system-verified so-called ‘trusted alarm’.

Venture-backed Netuitive set up shop in 2002 to develop enterprise systems performance management software, funded by Bessemer Venture Partners, Columbia Capital, Flagship Ventures, and Noro-Moseley Partners. Its alarm analytics technology has also been adopted by NetIQ. BlueCross BlueShield and Coca Cola Enterprises count among its customer base.
