Bluestone Software Inc, the Mount Laurel, New Jersey, web application server supplier, yesterday added support for IBM’s AS/400 to its web application server platform, Sapphire/Web. As a result, Bluestone said companies will be able to quickly develop and deploy applications to enable customers or remote users to access legacy AS/400 applications using a standard web browser. Bluestone’s Sapphire/Web application server framework already runs on IBM’s OS/390 and AIX, Microsoft’s Windows 95/98 and NT, Unix, and Linux. John Capobianco, senior VP of marketing at Bluestone told ComputerWire Sapphire/Web’s ability to support 100% pure Java as one of its deployment models meant customers could deploy a Java application server on the AS/400 right out of the box, with no porting needed. AS/400 customers can now leverage all of their existing technology investments by integrating and extending those applications to the web, he said. Additionally, companies won’t have to recompile the applications for different platforms. So, a developer will be able to write an application for a Unix box one day and use it with an AS/400 machine the next, Capobianco added.
