Blackberry maker Research In Motion (RIM) and London-based digital media delivery company, 7digital, have announced that the 7digital Music Store will come pre-installed on the BlackBerry PlayBook.

The announcement comes ahead of the PlayBook’s launch in the UK, US and Canada in March-April this year.

RIM’s new tablet computer’s competitor Apple’s iPad features the iTunes store.

According to the deal, the 7digital Music Store will give BlackBerry PlayBook users access its 13 million high quality (320kbps) MP3s. Users will also have the option to find out the details of the tracks before making a purchase and discover new music through 7digital’s recommendation technology.

Prices for the service will be around the same as on 7digital.com, said the company.

7digital CEO Ben Drury said RIM has created an incredible tablet with premium multimedia features and together the companies will deliver exceptional music experience by offering content that is easy to discover, purchase and use.

Drury said, "We currently have the largest international footprint of any MP3 digital music seller and we look forward to expanding our business with RIM throughout the year."

BBM Platform & Integrated Services vice-president Alistair Mitchell said the 7digital Music Store complements the high-performance BlackBerry PlayBook.

Mitchell said, "We are thrilled to be working with 7digital to provide BlackBerry PlayBook users with access to an amazing catalog of 13 million tracks."

Earlier, RIM boss Jim Balsillie had said that moving into larger devices such as tablets is a big challenge for the company.

RIM announced its Playbook tablet device in September 2010.

The company has also said that it would be launching a 4G Playbook in the second half of the year.
