BlackBerry has signed a long-term patent cross-licensing agreement with Cisco, in a move to to increase revenues.
Both Blackberry and Cisco did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement, which covers products and technologies of both companies.
BlackBerry will receive a license fee from Cisco, with the companies also planning to further extend their technical cooperation through the new deal.
Cross-licensing assures freedom of operation for technology firms and also helps in removing concerns on patent litigation.
BlackBerry vice president of intellectual property and licensing Mark Kokes said: "With the agreement in place, BlackBerry and Cisco can focus on innovation and continued technical cooperation, allowing our companies more freedom to create leading products and services for customers without the potential for patent disputes."
Cisco vice president of intellectual property Dan Lang said: "We look forward to continuing to innovate to meet the needs of our respective customers."
BlackBerry has posted a net loss of $28m in the first quarter of 2015 as the company struggled to sell its smartphones and worked to increase its revenue from software and licences.
Cisco on the other hand has reported a 5.1% increase in its revenue to $12.1bn for the third quarter ending 25 April 2015, compared to $11.5bn in the same period last year.
