Bizee.com launched a new web portal site aimed at businesses yesterday, including a free secure communications service using virtual private networking technology. Rockville, Maryland-based Bizee’s portal covers 24 vertical market industries, and offers a mixture of free and paid-for content, along with business-to- business communications and simple prourement applications.
Bizee has signed a deal with Germantown, Maryland-based V-One Corp for its SmartGate VPN technology, which enables 168-bit Triple DES encryption, and is using it for BizeeRFP, its first application. BizeeRFP is a request for procedure application. In the future, Bizee promises simple enterprise resource planning over the portal, a front-office application designed to hook multiple buyers up to sellers, and aimed at smaller suppliers who haven’t got their own ERP systems.
Bizee uses the Oracle 8i database running on Sun Microsystems Inc servers to run its service, and AboveNet Communications Inc for bandwidth, redundancy and other services. Its site is customizable by users, and includes original content. It plans additional news, information and e-commerce products, along with tools and expert systems for business users.
