BigHand, a provider of speech recognition technologies, has introduced its digital dictation systems in 22 directorates, operated by the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
The Trust – constituted by London-based teaching hospitals Guy’s and St Thomas’ – has acquired a software license for 2,500 users within the organisation.
In addition to replacing its analogue tapes, the Trust has integrated BigHand’s digital dictation system alongside its outsourcing provider.
The Trust has deployed this tool with an objective to improve their internal processes and provide faster service for the 900,000 patient contacts they have each year.
Guy’s and St Thomas’ Trust cardiovascular team leader Rita Du’Pratt said their experience is that BigHand has had a very positive reception from the secretarial staff in the Cardiac Department at St Thomas’ Hospital.
"There are a number of benefits such as; clarity of voice quality; ability to view the length of letters helping with organisation and prioritisation; and being able to view and type letters in "real time", which has resulted in urgent letters being available for review before the clinic is over," Du’ Pratt said.
The full rollout is expected to help the Trust tap more benefits from speech recognition technology.
