Bell Atlantic Corp plans to open a multimillion-dollar Digital Production Centre in Reston, Virginia in July to support its Stargazer interactive video programming project. The centre is to be thrown open to the entertainment and information industries to provide the facilities they need to create and package interactive multimedia services such as movies, television programmes, documentaries and video health care information. Existing programmes created by a Hollywood studio could be arranged in packages, such as all Westerns or all comedies, and Bell Atlantic is feeling studios out about supplying films and other programming. The telephone company says it hopes to create a virtual video store type of environment for its subscribers in their homes.
