Beliefnet offers search functions, invitation tools, spiritual content, donation tools, video and photo sharing, privacy controls, designs for user pages and a faith filter that enables people to share their faith with others.

The site has also partnered with authors, organizations, and publishers to allow users to edit their profile pages and journal entries with writings and radio segments for reflection, inspiration, guidance on family issues, and spiritual insights.

The networking service also offers websites, calendars, and discussion forums to members of book clubs, support groups, Bible study and fan clubs. It claims to encourage people of all faiths, including Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Islam.

The site targets Americans who regularly perform spiritual and religious activities online, which Pew Internet & American Life Project claims to be about 82 million.

Texas-based social networking software company Small World Labs has developed the technology for Beliefnet Community.

A number of niche social networking sites have been launched recently such as Y! Kickstart from Yahoo which aims to connect new graduates with alumni and prospective employers, myartinfo introduced specifically for artists, and WooMe launched for speed dating on the internet.
