BCE Inc, the former Bell Canada Enterprises, looks set to take control of lusty systems integrator and ComputerLand franchise holder SHL Systemhouse Inc following the fall from grace of SHL’s present controlling shareholder, Kinburn Corp, Ottawa. Kinburn, a diversified holding company with 50.1% of SHL through its Kinburn Technology subsidiary says it will default on $691m in loans due to be repaid – much of it owed to BCE. BCE – it inter alia holds 52% of Northern Telecom Ltd – already has 12.4% of SHL, and its loans to Kinburn are secured with the shares in SHL.
