San Jose-based Bay Networks Inc has announced new Fast Ethernet modules for its System 3000 modular hub, claiming they represent the industry’s first 100Base-T system integrated into a modular chassis. The new products include a new chassis configuration and chassis upgrade kit, both capable of supporting Ethernet, Token Ring and Fast Ethernet simultaneously; two Fast Ethernet host modules capable of building mixed shared and switched bandwidth-optimized and microsegmented networks; an advanced agent-based network management module compatible with Bay’s Optivity network management software; and a low-cost 24-port bundle. The System 3000 Fast Ethernet products conform to the IEEE 802.3u 100Base-T standard and can support up to 72 users in a single chassis. The Ethernet-Token Ring-Fast Ethernet chassis upgrade kit costs $1,000 and the Fast Ethernet 24-port bundle is $7,485. Meanwhile, the company has announced that its Remote Annex line of remote access servers now offers native support for Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0. The new functionality offers network managers the ability to provide remote access communications for users migrating to Windows NT server, and gives network managers more flexible management options using the product’s enhanced security and administration.
