Avistar Communications, a provider of unified visual communications offerings, has released Avistar C3 Integrator – Citrix Edition for Citrix XenDesktop.

The company claims that the new scalable desktop videoconferencing offering is designed to work with and leverage the benefits of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). It delivers a feature-rich desktop videoconferencing experience to desktop users on PCs, laptops and thin terminals, while operating across enterprise LANs and global WANs, without overburdening the VDI environment.

Avistar said that the new offering enables large-scale and fully managed deployments of voice and video calling while integrated with unified communications offerings such as Microsoft Office Communicator using the C3 Unified – Microsoft OCS Edition.

Bryan Kennedy, vice president of business development at Avistar, said: “Desktop virtualisation solutions such as XenDesktop are quickly becoming a critically important element in the corporate information technology infrastructure. VDI and desktop communications applications have not historically worked well together, but all this has now changed with the general availability of the Avistar C3 Integrator – Citrix Edition solution.

“Now end users can experience high-quality desktop visual communications that operate effectively and efficiently within the VDI without slowing down critical business applications or the corporate network. This further leverages the outstanding cost savings and operational efficiencies delivered by VDI solutions such as XenDesktop.”
