Autonomy Corp, the San Francisco-based provider of knowledge management technology, is to partner with start-up Intraspect Software Inc to build and manage the next generation of collaborative knowledge portals. Los Altos, California-based Intraspect’s CEO Jim Pflaging said that Autonomy had the only technology capable of automatically identifying the main ideas in a piece of text. This would enable their customers to automate the categorization, tagging, hypertext linking and personalization of internal and external information. While Autonomy is guarded about prospects for the partnership, it could be a significant deal because Intraspect is shaping up to be a major player in the knowledge management market. Its rapid expansion in the US is likely to lead to a move into Europe shortly.
