AT&T Corp is following IBM Corp’s lead and introducing additional hourly charges for its high-end dial-up internet users. From May 1 the company’s $20 monthly rate will give users 150 hours of time per month, after which they will have to $1 an hour. At present they get unlimited usage. IBM starts its new plan today, which offers up to 100 hours for $20 and then $2 per hour thereafter (CI No 3,337). AT&T says based on current usage, 97 percent of its AT&T WorldNet subscribers should continue to pay no more than $20 and it is guaranteeing that rate at least until the end of the year. In addition, AT&T is altering its 10-hour a month plan. It’s still $10 per month for 10 hours, but each additional hour will be $1 an hour, instead of the $2.50 at present.
