AT&T will add wireless services to the mix of voice and internet protocol based data and networking services that US Airways uses to run its domestic operations and call center. Under the terms of the agreement, AT&T will provide US Airways with wireless services for a variety of critical business processes, including access to corporate e-mail through BlackBerryA and voice service for domestic and international corporate business travel.
Additionally, US Airways will leverage the advantages of AT&T’s wireless network to provide real-time tracking data for its customers’ shipments. Through the use of hand-held barcode scanners connected wirelessly to the AT&T network, US Airways will be able to provide up-to-the-minute tracking to its global shipping customers.
Joe Beery, senior vice president and chief information officer of US Airways, said: In a move to optimize and improve our tracking of cargo shipments, we sought a reliable and consistent solution. AT&T brings the benefit of wireless advantages to the solution and enhances our agility and high-quality standards to our customer service philosophy.
