Paradyne Corp, now AT&T Co’s data communications equipment subsidiary, has introduced a variety of new features on its Dataphone II Acculink 740 series of multiplexers. For example, a new load sharing power supply keeps the muliplexer in operation when the power falters or is lost and new software features fixed routing with automatic restoration. In this way algorithms can be given two fixed routes for each channel group. If these routes are busy, the data can be detoured using the automatic restoration option. Further new features include fault recovery which, in the event of facility or equipment failure, enables users to delay automatic reconfiguration; while the clear channel capability uses the B8ZS protocol to support 64Kbps clear channel transmission. A new voice transmission module interfaces a DS-1 channel with a digital PABX or channel bank and the multiplexer. Other modules now available can make substrate data streams conform to the SDM format for transmission over high capacity digital facilities, and offer improved support for multipoint tail circuit configurations. In the US the 740 and 741 multiplexers with software upgrades sell for between $20,000 and $26,000, with the 745 costing between $25,000 and $30,000. All enhancements will be generally available from July, and no discounts have been announced for current customers.
