AT&T Co is seeking to take on MCI Communications Inc in the facsimile market, launching a worldwide AT&T Enhanced Fax transmission service and what it claims is the industry’s first facsimile machine to offer concurrent voice and facsimile operation: the Enhanced Fax service features store-and-forward calling, fully automated broadcast capability, more reliable and secure delivery than other fax services, and a user-friendly interface and will be available in December at 60 cents a page in the US, $1.42 to $6 per page overseas; the new 9015PF facsimile machine isn’t as clever as it sounds, because it doesn’t multiplex speech and image but requires a separate line for each; light enough to carry around, the thing is offered for $1,600.
