AT&T Co is rapidly building its personal communicators empire, which is structured around Mountain View, California-based Eo Inc, the communicator designer in which it is now the majority shareholder. EO swallowed Go Corp, developer of the PenPoint operating system, in August, and for its next meal, it has gone for Pensoft Corp, developer of the Perspective information manager, which runs on the EO Personal Communicator. Terms were not disclosed. EO will use Pensoft’s database architecture as a central information repository to expand communications services and enable its devices to pick up information from the putative information superhighway. Other investors in EO include Matsushita Communication Industrial Co Ltd and Marubeni Corp, and the company is also Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA’s chosen partner in handheld devices. Eo defines its Personal Communicator line as the next generation of intelligent cellular telephones.
