AT&T has extended its Workbench mobile app platform to include businesses and organisations that have mobile devices running on the Android platform.

The WorkBench mobile app platform is powered by Antenna Software, which offers businesses the ability to deploy and manage enterprise Web applications to a mobile device by providing a natively built, secure application manager for work applications.

In addition, the WorkBench enables mobile devices running on Android to use existing enterprise application services to secure Web applications hosted in a managed environment.

The company said that the WorkBench segregates business functionality from personal content on the device, making it possible to secure enterprise data and apps even on mobile devices purchased by the individual.

The WorkBench is also an integral part of its MEAP, which offers hosted and managed mobile integration offerings and application consulting services for companies that want to extend their business-critical information to mobile employees.

AT&T said that the WorkBench enables IT organisations to provision, deploy and administer Web applications and collaboration tools on Android devices based on an employee’s role and job requirements.

The company said that its existing mobile applications, ProntoForms from TrueContext and Xora GPS TimeTrack, are now available on Android.

The ProntoForms app now available on Android, provides companies with an easy-to-use, simple-to-deploy offering for mobilising data collection processes that they previously managed on paper.

In addition, the user-friendly ProntoForms application, coupled with the Android platform’s smooth interface, enables users to execute key business functions.

The Xora GPS TimeTrack is the Mobile Resource Management app from AT&T available on Android that allows business customers to take advantage of the rich user experience of the Android OS while improving field based business processes.

The application is expected to help companies with a mobile workforce to automate collection and processing of workers’ time card information, track billable time spent on a job and provide near real-time visibility of workers locations for improved dispatching.

AT&T business solutions, advanced enterprise mobility solutions vice president Chris Hill said mobile applications have the power to provide businesses and organisations with the near real-time visibility they need to help maximise productivity and efficiency in today’s environment.

"Over the last two years, we have tripled the number of business subscribers who are using a variety of integrated devices across various mobile operating systems, including Android," Hill said.
