Paris-based Atos Origin will pay an undisclosed sum to acquire the division from KarstadtQuelle, and some 900 people will transfer over to Atos Origin, which will then become responsible for managing KarstadtQuelle’s data processing centers, network operations, terminal device support, and application management.
Atos Origin will also take over the company’s two main data processing centers in Essen and Nuremberg, which provide backup and recovery services to KarstadtQuelle’s main retail operations.
Although terms of the deal were not disclosed, ComputerWire estimates the deal to be valued in the region of $500 million over ten years, which would make it by far the largest deal signed by Atos Origin to date. According to ComputerWire’s Contract Database, the company’s previous largest deal was signed with Commerzbank in June 2004, worth an estimated $30 million.
