The Desktop ATM 25 Alliance has announced that with the ratification of the Asynchronous Transfer Mode 25Mbps specification by the ATM Forum, the increased market awareness of Desktop Asynchronous Mode and the availability of a multitude of Desktop Asynchronous Mode products, the Alliance has done its job and is to disband this month. The Desktop ATM 25 Alliance was established in August 1994 as a multi-vendor effort committed to accelerating the acceptance of ATM 25 to the desktop. The group’s charter was to make ATM 25 products open, accessible and interoperable. Now, with shipments of ATM 25 network interface boards projected by Dataquest Inc to grow from 36,400 in 1995 up to 1.1m in 1999, the group believes that this has been achieved.
