Multimedia training specialist Asymetrix Learning Systems Inc of Seatte, Washington and DataBeam Corp have announced a product development and marketing agreement to improve online learning offerings. The companies plan to integrate Asymetrix Librarian and the DataBeam Learning Server to provide for the management and delivery of both self-paced and live collaborative learning over the Internet. The offering will let training organizations simplify the deployment of online learning by offering a one enterprise-wide system that meets a wide range of remote training needs, the two said. Asymetrix Librarian is a learning management system for centrally controlling online learning activities including course delivery, learner access, collaboration and performance tracking. DataBeam’s Learning Server will add synchronous capabilities by enabling users to engage in live, interactive training sessions on the Internet or organizational intranets. Privately held Asymetrix , nee Asymetrix Corp, announced at the end of last year that it wanted to sharpen its focus as a multimedia training company since the acquistion of learning software outfit Aimtech Corp in July 1997. It also has a partnership with streaming video company RealNetworks to ship RealNetworks’ servers and encoders with its training software instructor to make it easier to include streaming audio and video in training applications. DataBeam is a specialist in live collaboration and training software based in Lexington, Kentucky.
