AST Research Inc of Irvine, California, has announced the first of a series of personal computer workstations called the Medallion series and developed in conjunction with CalComp Inc of Anaheim, California, for computer-aided design, engineering and graphic-design applications: priced at $9,000, the Medallion will run software developed for MS-DOS compatible personal computers and operates at 23.5 MIPS under the Dhrystone version 1.1 benchmark; the first system also comes with a CalComp DrawingCard 20 multisync monitor, a DrawingCard graphics controller, as well as a CalComp DrawingBoard II graphics tablet with transducer.
