Ashisuto Co, the most successful Japanese software company owned by a gaijin – foreigner, Bill Totten, is making waves in the personal computer software market with its low-priced software trio, Ashishuto-Calc, Ashisuto-Word, and Ashisuto-Card: each sells for around $60, making them at least three to four times cheaper than any competitive products from other suppliers, causing much gnashing of teeth among its competitors; top of the micro software best seller list for March is still Lotus Development Corp’s 1-2-3, followed by IchiTaro, the most popular Japanese word processor, in the version for Toshiba Corp’s notebook-size Dynabook computer – and after those two come the trio of rock-bottom programs from feisty Ashisuto.
