According to a spokesman for Hughes Communications International Inc, Arabsat will announce who is to be awarded a $250m satellite contract on September 24: Hughes is one of the three groups in the running, the other two being British Aerospace Plc, and Aerospatiale SA of France; the contract is for two satellites, one to be held in reserve, to be used for telecommunications and television transmissions.
