Apptix has launched hosted Microsoft Office Communications Server Release 2 (OCS R2), which provides customers with the ability to receive web conferencing or secure instant messaging products individually or bundled with the company’s other business communication services.

According to Apptix, the OCS R2 offers software-powered web and audio conferencing capabilities that work with businesses’ existing IT infrastructure and allows end users to contact the right person directly from within applications such as Office Outlook. Apptix Web Conferencing allows real-time web meetings with customers and team members and integrates with Microsoft Outlook, enabling quick and easy scheduling.

The Apptix Secure IM enables instant messaging along with PC-to-PC or PC-to-Mobile audio or video chats and file transfer within a single application. It helps organisations meet state and federal regulations in terms of communications security, archiving and compliance, the company said.

Integration with Microsoft Exchange calendaring enables presence awareness, allowing coworkers to see the status of colleagues based on their Exchange calendar and start dialogues in various methods via Microsoft Communicator, Apptix said.

James Bond, vice president of product and software development at Apptix, said: Our launch of hosted OCS R2 provides organizations of all sizes, from home offices to large enterprises, an affordable and integrated option for leveraging the flexibility of Web conferencing and secure Instant Messaging services.

Offering the latest release of OCS as a hosted product is another step towards our end goal: a true hosted unified communications solution integrating the wide portfolio of business communication and collaboration services we offer.
