Apple Computer Inc is planning a two-year phase-out of its regional distribution system according to Macintosh News, Manhasset, New York, which has copyrighted its claimed exclusive: the paper says that Apple will ship all but very small orders for Macs directly from a centralised shipping hub, speeding up ships, making manufacture on a just-in-time basis easier, and helping to cut reseller inventory costs; product will eventually come direct from the plant rather than the five regional support centres.
