Yet another high-level executive at Compaq Computer Corp has decided to hit the road. This time, Hans Gutsch, senior vice president of human resources, retired abruptly last Wednesday after 11 years at the company. Acting CEO and chairman of the board Ben Rosen thanked Hans for his many years of service at Compaq, which grew from 2,000 to 70,000 employees during his tenure, yet didn’t elaborate on why he left, who will replace him or, perhaps more significantly, who would be stuck doing all the aggressive hiring that Compaq needs to do these days. Maybe Rosen will be acting SVP in charge of HR, too?
