Orland Park, Illinois-based Andrew Corp announced the BridgePort/7806, a Token Ring bridge capable of forwarding 18,000 frames per second for 64-byte frames. According to the company, dual banks of flash Electrically Programmable ROM enables upgrades to be managed while the 7806 is actively bridging, so session are not affected. The bridge is said to include Protocol and Media Access Control filtering, and an Auto Single Route feature to eliminate broadcast frames for source route bridging. Spanning Tree Algorithm support for wire speed transparent bridging is also supported, says the firm. On the management side, Andrew says it supports IBM Corp’s LAN Network Manager/NetView and is fully Simple Network Management Protocol-compliant; it is out now; no prices were given.
