IBM Technology Products added two Type II PCMCIA facsimile-modem cards, the 14.4/14.4 Data/Fax modem at $500 in September and the 2.4/9.6 at $300, next month. The unit also has three infra-red wireless adaptors, one of which comes on a PCMCIA card; the others are for Micro Channel and AT buses. They transfer data at 1Mbps, and can implement stand-alone wireless local area networks or be used with new or existing wired Ethernets or Token Rings. They use Photonics Corp’s infra-red transceiver and work with that company’s Collaborate wireless network. Prices are $550 for PCMCIA, August; $500 each Micro Channel and AT, September.
