Hewlett-Packard Co has also introduced a four-port, multiprotocol router, the HP Router ER, and Unix network management software for hubs, bridges and routers called HP OpenView Interconnect Manager, which runs on the HP9000 HP-UX machines. The Router ER is the newest module in the HP EtherTwist product family. It supports two Ethernet IEEE 802.3 links and two synchronous, high-speed digital links. It doubles as a router or abridge and connects to wide-area network links operating at speeds up to 2.048Mbps. Protocols supported include TCP/IP, DECnet Phase IV, Novell Inc IPX, XNS, X25 and AppleTalk. It Wellfleet Communications Inc routing software. The OpenView Interconnect Manager includes an autodiscovery feature that automatically identifies and maps all Simple Network Management Protocol/Interconnect Protocol devices, reducing time taken to create and update the mapping from hours to minutes. The software is based on TCP/IP, SNMP/IP and OSF/Motif. Both are out now, and the $9,000 price for the HP Router ER includes all link and protocol support. OpenView Interconnect Manager software is $17,000.
