Amstrad Plc has finally decided to sue Seagate Technology Inc over the allegedly defective disk drives that caused it to call in 7,000 of its PC2386 computers, and derailed its efforts to make its mark in the professional market, and later led it to take a UKP20m writedown on unsold PC2000s. Amstrad wants $150m for actual losses and consequential loss of reputation. Seagate asserted that the suit was without merit and would be defended vigorously.
