Ameritech Corp has launched a wireless digital broadband service that will provide customers with high-speed, door-to door voice, data and video communications. Ameritech Wireless Broadband Service is a local loop access offering for customers who need high-speed, cost-effective access to existing phone lines and fiber optic networks. It will provide high-speed local network interconnection, desktop videoconferencing and internet access. Using 38GHz microwave technology, Ameritech will be able to provide local access service for its customers as well as network diversity and back-up recovery, it said. It plans to focus initially on the Midwest, starting in November. Ameritech Wireless Broadband Service will be provided through an equity- based strategic alliance with Advanced Radio Telecom Inc, which was been granted 38GHz licenses across the US by the Federal Communications Commission. á
